The Federation Global Initiative on Psychiatry has its office in the same premises as its Dutch member GIP-Hilversum. The main tasks of the office include:
The mission of FGIP is invariably to promote humane, ethical, and effective mental health care throughout the world and to support a global network of individuals and organizations to develop, advocate for, and carry out the necessary reforms. For that purpose, FGIP acts as a federation body for the existing regional GIP legal entities, as well as for legal entities that share the goal of FGIP and have been designated as member organization by its board and for any new GIP legal entity created by FGIP. FGIP serves the interests of the member organizations, coordinates their activities, and provides support to a global network of people and organizationswho subscribe to the aims and values of FGIP. The organization strives toprovide with resources and technical assistance. FGIP also supports international campaigns against unethical behavior, political abuse and other violations of human rights in the field of mental health.
FGIP concentrates in particular on specific target groups such as clients of mental health care and those in their immediate surrounding, children and adolescents, and detainees facing psychiatric problems, as well as on the development of psycho-social and mental health care in third world countries, as a significant contribution to fighting world poverty.
