On October 7, GIP Chief Executive Robert van Voren successfully defended his dissertation "Cold War in Psychiatry" at the Kaunas Vytautas Magnus University and obtained his PhD. After opponents Prof. Stefano Bianchini and Dr. Ben de Jong approved the quality of the dissertation, a committee of five members (Prof david Aprasidze from Georgia, Prof. Leonidas Donskis from Lithuania, Prof. Dick Raes from The Netherlands, Prof. Rudi Rizman from Slovenia and Dr. Elizabeth Teague from the United Kingdom) unanimously voted in favor and conferred on Robert van Voren the title of Doctor in Philosophy.

On October 20, Robert van Voren gave his first public lecture at the Ilia State University in Tbilisi, where he will work as visiting Professor of Political Science starting January 1, 2011. Among his tasks will be the establishment of a Center on Cold war Studies at Ilia University. He will also commence lecturing at Kaunas Vytautas Magnus University. Both teaching positions will be carried out next to his work at Global Initiative on Psychiatry.   The dissertation "Cold war in Psychiatry" was officially presented in the European Parliament in October 14, and the first copy was given to Mr. Anatoly Adamishin, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Soviet Union, who was instrumental in bringing about the end of political abuse of psychiatry in the USSR. The book is published by Rodopi and available via www.rodopi.nl and www.amazon.com.
