"Piece of Progress"

"Piece of Progress" prize is awarded to Nino Makhashvili, GIP-Tbilisi Director, for the contribution to the field of Georgian penitentiary healthcare

On December 3, 2013 the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance with a joint initiative of the European Union and the Council of Europe held a mid-term conference entitled " Prison Health Care Reform in Georgia – we are keeping our promise".

At the conference, representatives of the Ministry presented a report on prison healthcare within... achievements during 2013, challenges and future plans. After the measures taken during the first phase of reforming project, mental health and psychiatric care of the prisoners, treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicted inmates, as well as the continuity of medical care  still remains as a challenge.

Nino Makhashvili is one of those 14 persons from the State and Non-Governmental organizations awarded by the Ministry for contribution to the field of penitentiary healthcare in Georgia.

Global society is experiencing the biggest crisis Since the Second World War. The resulting stress and anxiety undermines the psychological well-being of individuals, families, and communities. People with psychosocial disability, and the staff who provide care, are particularly vulnerable. FGIP is actively engaged in providing that support. For more information click here
